    Country look: Cornish landscape

    by  • 24/01/2014 • Country style • 1 Comment

I’d like to introduce you to Helen Round, a contemporary textile and homeware designer who makes beautiful things for the home, all inspired by the Cornish landscape.

I met Helen last week at an exhibition and got the chance to see how lovely her collection of hand printed cushions really are -  made using the finest quality linen and hemp, they are so tactile! My personal favourite is the Rame Head design (below). The simple illustration depicts a charming house on a hill reached by a winding path surrounded by cow parsley & grasses – it looks like an idyllic place to be.

With a background in fine art textiles and printmaking, Helen lives and works in Cornwall and the countryside surrounding her studio inspires her hand-sketched picturesque designs. The Rame Head, Hedgerow and Birdsong collections all feature on a selection of cushions, lampshades, tea towels and mugs – perfect for  bringing the beauty of nature indoors.

I’ve been busy making moodboards to banish the January blues and share some further ideas on how to use colour – whether it’s adding small touches with cushions and throws or being brave with bold paints on furniture and walls.

Feeling inspired? Why not get creative with our Moodboard tool for yourself and share your ideas with us on Housetohome.

Country style: Relax with printed linen.

    by  • 19/06/2013 • Country style • 0 Comments

Crumpled linens are this summer’s big style trend but there aren’t many fabric collections that combine the relaxed feel of oyster linen with vintage prints. The Nordika Collection by Peony and Sage mixes an array of vintage rose prints, with paisleys, pinstripes, polka dots and pictoral fabrics including blue birds and butterflies all with the faded and worn feel that linen gives you- fabulous for a customised Country cottage look.

    Country buy: Farrow & Ball

    by  • 24/05/2013 • Country moment, Country style • 0 Comments

Farrow & Ball is one of the most iconic names when it comes to country decorating. Earlier this week I visited the head office in Wimborne, Dorset, to go behind the scenes and see where the magic happens!

I was given a guided tour of the whole process: from where the creative team enthusiastically brainstorm new colours and designs, to where the experts mix the paints and print the wallpapers. It was fascinating to see just how much dedication goes into every step. Be it the paints or wallpapers, the team takes tremendous pride in ensuring each batch, however large or small, meets Farrow & Ball’s high requirements.

Snaps from my day at Farrow & Ball; 1.The paints being made 2.Some bespoke artwork in the creative studio 3.The many samples of wallpapers 4. Printing blocks ready to print wallpapers.

With interior and exterior, modern and traditional finishes available, all of Farrow & Ball’s paints are created to shape the home. This weekend’s Bank Holiday is the ideal time to get decorating, if you’re looking for paint inspiration why not get on board with a big trend this season for having fun with floors…

    Plum & Ashby

    by  • 25/01/2013 • Uncategorized • 0 Comments

I’d like to introduce Plum & Ashby, a brand new online shop – so new in fact that it’s still ‘coming soon’ (you can browse to your heart’s content but can’t officially shop until the beginning of February). Offering a contemporary take on the traditional general store, Plum & Ashby stocks homewares with an elegant country look and a timeless appeal.

I had the pleasure of meeting founder Vicky and designer Haley last week at the inspirational interiors exhibition Home. As I was talked through the new collection of beautiful printed textiles, handcrafted leather products and British made ceramics it struck me just how charming all the designs are. Inspired by a joint passion for vintage finds Vicky and Haley wanted their designs to capture the nostalgic and comforting memories of home, but with a new  modern country style.

    The Shop At Number 57

    by  • 30/03/2012 • Country style • 3 Comments

I’m a tad excited this week to share news of a fabulous new online home store, The Shop at Number 57 – an eclectic mix of vintage style and all things British. It’s very close to our hearts here at Country Homes & Interiors as the shop’s been created by Marie Nichols, a very talented Interiors stylist who works with us on decorating features.

Combining a talent for transforming forgotten treasures into stylish accessories for the modern home, and a keen eye for styling gorgeous interiors, it’s no surprise that The Shop at Number 57 is a treasure trove of exciting finds.  Marie scours flea markets and junk shops for hidden gems; the rest of the time she can be found in the studio designing bespoke pieces, from craft kits to limited edition artworks

With dreams of running a seaside shop one day, I get the feeling that The Shop at Number 57 is the start of something even greater.

I’d love one of Marie’s cross stitch kits to while away the hours…Which piece is your favourite?
