    Country craft: framed seed packets

    by  • 20/04/2014 • Country craft • 0 Comments

Create a pretty picture with seed packets as seen on Country Homes and Interiors blog.

Create a pretty picture with seed packets. Frames from a selection at Next.

Sometimes seed packets are just too pretty to throw away so why not frame them and make a lovely display of your favourites as seen here in the latest issue of Country Homes and Interiors. Source vintage packets online or at antique gardenalia stores or frame up new ones by simply neatening off any packet edges and mount on card before inserting into your chosen frame.

    Country room: children’s bedroom

    by  • 18/02/2014 • Country style • 1 Comment

We’re loving the kaleidoscope of colour and pattern in this pretty children’s bedroom. The vintage style and eclectic elements give it a grown up edge that bridges the gap between tot and teen.

Core colours of green, turquoise and pink demonstrate that stripes, geometric patterns and ditsy florals (isn’t the bedlinen from Room Seven just gorgeous?) can be combined together if you stick to key tones. Choose a pretty French-style painted bed and you can’t go far wrong.

Would you like to see more children’s rooms? Let us know here…

    Country style: Freewheeling this Autumn

    by  • 16/10/2013 • Country moment, Country style • 1 Comment

Autumn is very much a time of getting out and about. The weather is still warm enough to enjoy and as the leaves turn there’s something exciting about the season as Halloween approaches. A bicycle is the perfect way to run errands and view the countryside! But where do you store it if you don’t have a shed?  If your hallway is large enough then a good looking, pink shopper could be the answer adding a touch of vintage glamour to your décor, without even trying! For more Autumn decorating ideas see our November issue out now!

Country room: faded floral living room

    by  • 13/08/2013 • Country style • 1 Comment

Lounging on lazy summer days requires the comfort factor and this country living room, layered with pink and red Cabbages & Roses fabrics for a quintessentially English look, is the perfect place to relax away from the sun.

I love the informal touch of throwing a vintage-style quilt over the sofa and piling it up high with beautiful faded floral cushions. Striped and checked cushions in toning raspberry shades add to the burst of colour (you can never have too many cushions!), while flowing curtains in a classic country floral frame the elegant period windows. It’s so easy to imagine yourself kicking off your shoes and settling down with a good book here… if you can find room beside that cute little Jack Russell!

    Fabrics: Three inch Stripe Raspberry, £38 a metre; Paris Rose Raspberry, £38 a metre;
Jolly Stripe Red, £38 a metre; French Check Raspberry, £32 a metre; French Toile Raspberry, £38 a metre; all Cabbages & Roses

    Country room: stylish summerhouse

    by  • 25/06/2013 • Country style • 0 Comments

Who wouldn’t love a summerhouse like this, whatever the weather?

This room has a lovely relaxed Swedish feel with its white cladding walls. Yet it’s a country scheme that cleverly combines informal and formal, elegant and vintage. Those comfy armchairs in a smart Sanderson Home stripe create a focal point for the room, while floorlength curtains with toning striped edging add to the cosy feel. Vintage touches are provided by the upturned crate coffee table, folding stool and that fantastic aqua chest, while the enamel pendant light adds a stylish retro touch. Even the ladder tucked away in the corner is pretty yet practical – and ideal for changing the light bulb!  And,  the woodburner provides the ideal solution for those chilly days.

Definitely the perfect place to while away a few hours and plan your garden with a cuppa…

Chairs from left: Sutton 232663, Saxon 232682, cushion Brecon 232673, curtain Annis 232654, with Brecon 232673; all £28 a metre from the Madison and Country Stripes collection by Sanderson Home

    Revived 1950′s wallpapers

    by  • 07/01/2011 • Country craft, Country style • 6 Comments

When this new collection from Little Greene popped in my inbox it filled me with joy, especially on a rainy day such as this! Launching this month they have collaborated with The Whitworth Art Gallery in Manchester, home to the largest wallpaper archive in the UK. I love how they’ve taken eclectic designs from the 50′s era and applied their expert eye and use of colour resulting in a relaxed style that is really liveable today. The soft pastel palette and pretty motifs would work perfectly in a modern country home.

    Letterpress prints

by  • 08/12/2010 • Country craft, Country moment, Country style • 3 Comments

Lovers of lettering and typography (or people who buy Christmas presents for them) need look no further. Aardvark is an artistic partnership based in St Leonards on Sea, East Sussex, designing quirky prints with real homespun charm. They’re printed on a proper traditional letterpress in nearby Rye. Boat of Life has some great suggestions, and The Aardvark Manifesto is a good one too.
