    Love your walls

    by  • 22/03/2012 • Country style • 5 Comments

A couple of years ago I noticed the embryonic start of what is now the extremely popular and fast moving trend for wall art. It started with stencils, stickers and posters, soon gathering momentum with blackboard paints, signage, wooden letters to spell out sayings, magnetic poster boards, paper cut animal motifs, ceramic birds (a twist on flying ducks), floral wall corsages and clusters of clocks. The point is, the trend adds a bit of fun and drama to the home. It won’t break the bank. It’s a temporary design feature, which can be removed when you feel like a change and it makes a great present for a friend. What’s not to love? My current favourite is this cluster of clocks, great for keeping tabs of world time zones and very apt as the clocks change shortly. Have a look at our Love your walls feature, pages 84-89, April issue (out now) and let us your know your wall art favourite.

    All things bright and beautiful…

    by  • 28/02/2012 • Country style • 2 Comments

I don’t know about you, but there is something so heartening about seeing a home filled with vibrant colours and bold patterns. All too often people feel restricted when it comes to decorating and as a consequence, choose something far removed from their personal taste simply because they think it is appropriate.  This beautiful living room features in Homespun Style by interiors stylist Selina Lake (£19.99, Ryland Peters & Small), and shows that you don’t have to choose a muted shade on the walls in order to complement a bold floral design on a sofa. On the contrary, the strong blue colour on the walls only enhances the sofa rather than overpowers it. Would you be tempted to go for something similar in your own home?

The pretty yet bold floral design on this sofa looks simply perfect against the vivid blue walls. Perfect for a contemporary country living room.

I am totally in love with the new Gustav collection from Sandberg. This Swedish company has always been a personal favourite of mine thanks to its fresh and pretty country-style fabrics and wallpapers. The latest collection features delicately drawn oak foliage with pretty birds as well as trailing honeysuckle and flamboyant floral garlands. Here’s my favourite…

    Faded floral wallpapers

    by  • 15/07/2009 • Country style • 1 Comment

I love these rose-inspired wallpapers – the matt finish gives the designs a painterly quality that makes them look like works of art. Use these timeless wallpapers to create a relaxed, vintage feel in a country bedroom, or to decorate a feature wall. For a simple way to add pattern and colour, line cupboard drawers or the back of a dresser with paper as a beautiful backdrop to china and accessories.
